How it works.
The meat-csa works essentially like a traditional vegetable csa would. The only difference is that you are investing in the process of caring for and raising animals from birth, to processing, to you. The csa model helps balance the cash flow, which in turn allows us to focus our time and energy into raising the best meat possible
Different species will be ready at different parts of the season. We will have a spring and fall pig harvest, shares will be based on a first come first serve basis. We will let you know when your pork will be coming to you. Lambs will all be in late summer and fall, while broiler chickens will be harvested every month starting in June and running through October. We are hoping to add turkeys to the mix this year, more details to come on that later in the season.
You can browse our csa shares below and get a sense of what to expect from a share. You can also learn more about our animals and how they are raised by clicking HERE
Where are the drop-off locations?
For the 2014 season, we plan to expand significantly. In addition to cultivating relationships in my hometown of Astoria, Queens, we are collaborating with existing vegetable CSA programs in the mid-Hudson Valley. We are excited to be working with Obercreek Farm in Hughsonville, NY and Fishkill Farms in Hopewell Junction, NY. If you are coming to us from one of the two veggie CSA's listed above, be sure to select your regular pickup location when signing up for the meat-CSA.
Meat-CSA shares will be delivered once a month, starting in May/June through November for folks picking up from Veggie CSA's. We will continue to make drop offs year round in Astoria. Members may elect to pickup from Fatstock Farm year round, especially eggs! We will post a schedule of dates for drop offs by May 2014.
